The Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Registered Manager, or an ambitious and highly capable Deputy Manager ready to step up, to lead a 5-bed children's residential home in Ilford, East London.
The home supports children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and is currently rated Requires Improvement by Ofsted.
With only one young person currently placed, this is an excellent opportunity for the successful manager to take ownership of the service, strengthen practice and embed high standards before occupancy increases.
An existing Deputy Manager and staff team are already in place, providing the incoming Registered Manager with an established team to lead and develop.
The successful candidate will play a key role in taking the home forward, with the clear objective of achieving a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rating.
Key Responsibilities
As Registered Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the effective leadership and day-to-day management of the home. Responsibilities will include:
- Providing strong, visible leadership to the Deputy Manager and residential staff team.
- Ensuring children and young people receive safe, consistent and high-quality care.
- Leading improvements following the home's current Requires Improvement Ofsted rating.
- Developing and implementing a clear service improvement plan.
- Ensuring full compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.
- Maintaining robust safeguarding, risk management and care-planning procedures.
- Supporting positive outcomes for young people across education, health, relationships, behaviour and independence.
- Leading staff supervision, development and performance management.
- Developing a positive, accountable and child-centred culture within the home.
- Overseeing staffing levels, rotas and effective deployment of the team.
- Building strong relationships with social workers, Local Authorities, families and other professionals.
- Monitoring the quality of care and ensuring actions identified through audits, Regulation 44 visits and Ofsted inspections are completed.
- Preparing the home and team for future Ofsted inspections.
- Supporting the safe and appropriate growth of occupancy as the service stabilises.
- Managing resources and budgets effectively.
About You
Experienced Registered Managers
Our client is particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- Significant experience within children's residential care.
- Strong experience supporting children and young people with EBD and complex needs.
- Current or previous experience as a Registered Manager, ideally with successful Ofsted registration.
- Strong knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted inspection framework.
- Experience improving, stabilising or developing a children's residential service.
- Confidence taking responsibility for a home currently rated Requires Improvement.
- Strong leadership and staff-development skills.
- A clear understanding of safeguarding and effective risk management.
- The ability to drive improvements and establish consistently high standards of practice.
Deputy Managers Ready to Progress
Applications are also welcomed from experienced Deputy Managers who are ready to secure their first Registered Manager position.
You should:
- Have substantial experience within children's residential care, particularly EBD services.
- Already hold a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or be actively working towards it.
- Be taking significant management responsibility within your current service.
- Have experience leading and developing residential staff.
- Understand Ofsted requirements and the Children's Homes Regulations.
- Be confident taking responsibility for service quality, safeguarding and compliance.
- Have the leadership ability and ambition to progress successfully through the Ofsted registration process.

- Clear progression and professional development opportunities
- The opportunity to take genuine ownership of a residential service

Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role offers more than simply maintaining an established service. It provides the successful manager with the opportunity to shape the future of the home and demonstrate measurable improvement.
With low current occupancy, an existing team and the backing of a wider residential care organisation, the incoming manager will have the opportunity to establish strong foundations, develop the staff team and create a consistently high-quality home for children and young people.
