Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre is on an exciting journey, and we're looking for outstanding people to be a part of our team at the 135-acre site. We're investing £75m into the future of rail at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre - a major commitment that includes the development of the UK's only continuous test loop. This investment will see the site play a pivotal role in the future of the UK's railway, as an exceptional facility to test and trial new traction technologies, securely store rolling stock and provide training in a live environment.
About the role
A great opportunity for an exceptional Rolling Stock Projects Engineer to join the Porterbrook team.
Role Purpose
- Support the Rolling Stock Engineering Projects Manager (LM) in ensuring all rolling stock projects & contracts undertaken at Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre (LMRIC) are delivered safely on time to standard and to budget.
- Ensure safe delivery of rolling stock maintenance activities undertaken within the maintenance facilities and train storage yards at LMRIC - in accordance with contractual requirements and site HSQE protocols.
- Forge strong relationships with customers and stakeholders to support continued pipeline growth of rolling stock projects delivered at LMRIC.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager to ensure all rolling stock projects undertaken at Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre are delivered safely and in accordance with the framework specified within the Porterbrook Standard for Project Management.
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager with the management of rolling stock projects led by the LMRIC Operations team.
- Maintain a suite of key performance indicators (KPIs) to proactively monitor project delivery performance and service levels.
- Day-to-day planning and management of rolling stock projects led by the LM Operations team.
- Undertake regular inspections and work with the HSQE Manager and Facilities Manager to ensure site maintenance facilities remain in a safe and fully operable condition.
- Review Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS) for rolling stock activities undertaken at LMRIC.
- Issue and close permits to work (PtW) for rolling stock activities undertaken at LMRIC.
- Carry out in process checks to ensure adherence to agreed RAMS, PtW conditions, relevant site procedures, protocols & housekeeping standards.
- Work with the Operations Planner to ensure train movements are planned and resourced.
- Assist the Rolling Stock Projects Manager with forming and implementing strategies to enable continued development of technical rolling stock maintenance capability at LMRIC.
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate access to, and working on rolling stock at LMRIC.
- Produce reports as required by the Rolling Stock Projects Manager.
- Attend meetings as required by the Rolling Stock Projects Manager.
- Ensure arrangements are in place for customers to complete relevant site inductions prior to commencing work.
- Carry out any other tasks as reasonably requested by the Rolling Stock Projects Manager.
Skills / Experience
- Degree or HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
- Formal Project Management qualification.
- Good knowledge of project/contract management in an operational environment.
- Experience in undertaking and/or managing rolling stock maintenance and/or modification programmes.
- Good knowledge of railway depot management.
- Experience in managing third-party suppliers & stakeholders.
- Good knowledge of project management tools.
- Ability to understand and comment upon engineering instructions and drawings.
- Knowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance and overhaul requirements.
