We have a unique opportunity to join our specialist Court of Protection and Management of Personal Affairs team within our highly successful Private Client team in our Taunton office. You will play a key role in the team supporting clients whilst also being instrumental in executing our growth strategy. You will have an existing caseload to work on, with support for business development and networking.
In addition to your private client expertise, we are looking for a team player who values every member of the team and wider firm and their contribution to the success of Porter Dodson. Key Responsibilities- Independently manage a caseload of Property & Affairs matters, handling day-to-day tasks and decisions.
- Prepare and submit applications to the Court of Protection, such as for a deputy appointment or a Statutory Will.
- Liaise with the individual, their family, deputies, and the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).
- Manage a client's bank accounts, investments, and benefits, which can include making regular payments, creating budgets, and liaising with banks and utility companies.
- Draft documents like witness statements and court applications.
- Represent the deputy or client at Court of Protection hearings.
- Supervise junior members of the team, including legal assistants and paralegals.
- Investigate any suspicions of financial abuse.
This role would best suit someone who is ambitious, pro-active, and enthusiastic, with excellent interpersonal skills. Ideally, you will have some exposure to private client work already and a compassionate and considered approach with the ability to engage with people at all levels. We believe this role would best suit someone at around Associate level or comparable Legal Advisor experience, but welcome applications from those who feel they meet the criteria.
