About the Role

We are seeking an Electrochemist to join our Hardware team. Based in our headquarters in Scale Space, White City, London, and reporting to the Cartridge Team Leader, this primarily on-site, lab-based role will develop and test new biosensing concepts and apply electrochemical principles to optimise bioassays for proteins and metabolites. You will collaborate cross-functionally with other teams and colleagues including mechanical, electronics, software, and biology experts.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrochemical nanopore-based assays for sensing of proteins and metabolites.
  • Characterise, modify, and optimise electrode materials and redox chemistries to improve signal sensitivity and specificity.
  • Develop and implement electrochemical measurement methods.
  • Run nanopore experiments to assess the impact of changes to electrode material, configuration, geometry on response time, sensitivity, noise, drift and run time.
  • Analyze experimental data, troubleshoot and propose ways forward.
  • Document research findings and contribute to publications and patents, presenting results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work cross-functionally to scale up promising solutions including interfacing with vendors and manufacturing partners.

Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD in Electrochemistry.
  • Strong background in electrochemical techniques e.g. cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy.
  • Practical experience in electrochemical biosensors and electrochemical transduction mechanisms.
  • Hands on experience of hardware and software used for electrochemical research (e.g. Autolabs, Nova) and analysing and interpreting data e.g., MATLAB, Python.
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in biological or solid state nanopore technologies.
  • Familiarity with techniques like XPS for characterising surfaces.
  • Familiarity with chemical and physical methods of modifying surfaces to change their interfacial properties.
  • Experience using microfluidics.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and modelling tools e.g., COMSOL.
  • Knowledge of microfabrication e.g. photolithography, soft lithography.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and regulations ISO 9001.
