We are looking for a Materials Planning Manager to join our successful team at our head office in York (must be local).

Role Details

  • Salary: up to £50,000 – Depending on experience
  • Location: New Lane, Huntington, York, YO32 9PT – You must live local to York
  • Employment type: Permanent
  • Annual on‑target bonus: 10% – Depending on company performance
  • Annual leave: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays and the opportunity to buy an additional 5 days

Responsibilities

  • Ensure materials are available on time to deliver the production plan for the York site, by implementing MRP policy, reviewing MRP lights, overdue purchase orders, following the right escalation process and mitigating shortages and risks.
  • Liaise daily with the manufacturing team to mitigate materials shortages and avoid production inefficiencies, working on systemic fixes with suppliers, stores, production scheduling, manufacturing and sales planning.
  • Manage collaborative relationships with various stakeholders from the business, acting as an operation process lead with a can‑do attitude and positive mindset, initiating and leading continuous improvement actions that enable more efficient execution of the business plans and supply chain strategy.
  • Initiate, develop and manage processes and system improvements to increase customer service, reduce material shortages and slow, non‑movers inventory (value and space), and reduce direct‑report firefighting.
  • Lead the materials supplier performance improvement plan for New Build in close collaboration with central procurement, defining KPIs and implementing systemic actions.
  • Managing performance, succession planning and ER activity.
  • Create employee engagement initiatives aimed at a positive work environment and boosting employee motivation and commitment.
  • Lead, develop and manage the Materials Planning team, producing personal development plans, increasing and managing performance, ensuring the team has the right structure, skill levels, standard processes and accountability.

  • Solid understanding of Materials Resource Planning procedures, production planning and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to people manage and coach a team to consistently deliver high‑quality results.
  • Initiative and leadership skills to improve processes and manage change.
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret technical information from multiple sources.
  • Strong communication, organisational and IT skills, with proficiency in ERP systems and Excel.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships both internally and externally, with a can‑do attitude and positive mindset to deliver the best for Portakabin.
  • Degree or higher qualification in supply chain, business administration or engineering.
