We are looking for a Maintenance Multiskilled Electrician to join our successful production team at our head office in York. Must live locally. As a Maintenance Multiskilled Electrician, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of electrical assets across a manufacturing site. The role covers reactive breakdown response, planned and preventative asset-care maintenance, and electrical installation, inspection, testing, and modernization activities. You will carry out effective electrical fault-finding to restore equipment promptly during breakdowns, while supporting long-term asset reliability through planned maintenance, statutory compliance, and continuous improvement activities.
Role Details:
- Hourly Rate: £23.62 per hour (inclusive of bonus and shift allowances)
- Typical Annual Earnings: £47,901.36 (based on 39 hours per week)
- Overtime: Additional overtime rates available
- Role based: Portakabin Ltd, New Lane, Huntington, York, YO32 9PT
- Contract type: Permanent
- Working hours: 39-hour working week, rotating weekly between AM and PM shifts
- Shift schedule: AM Shift: Monday to Thursday: 05:45 – 14:00, Friday: 05:45 – 12:45; PM Shift: Monday to Thursday: 13:45 – 23:45
In this role you will be required to:
- Electrical Maintenance & Fault-Finding
- Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance on manufacturing assets
- Diagnose and repair faults in electrical circuits, control panels, and distribution systems
- Support breakdown response to minimise production downtime
- Fixed Wiring, Inspection & Compliance
- Carry out inspection, testing and remedial works on fixed electrical installations
- Ensure compliance with BS 7671 and Electricity at Work Regulations
- Address actions arising from periodic inspection reports
- Maintain safe systems of work for electrical tasks
- Installation & Improvement Work
- Install new electrical systems and modify existing installations
- Support electrical upgrades and infrastructure modernization projects
- Assist with new equipment installation and commissioning
- Systems & Documentation
- Maintain accurate maintenance and compliance records using the CMMS
- Ensure test results, certification, and documentation are correctly recorded
- Support audit readiness and regulatory compliance activities
- Collaboration & Safety
- Work closely with mechanical and engineering colleagues
- Promote safe working practices and electrical awareness on site
- Provide technical guidance where appropriate
Our Ideal Candidate
- Recognised electrical apprenticeship (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
- Strong track record of electrical fault finding on circuits, control panels, motors, and distribution systems
- Experience installing, testing, and commissioning electrical installations in line with required standards
- Proven background in electrical asset care, including planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive breakdown repair
- Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial electrical systems, wiring, and control equipment
- Sound understanding of mechanical principles, fitting, and assembly to support multi-skilled maintenance activities
- Sound knowledge of electrical compliance, inspection, and testing requirements, with accurate technical documentation
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- C&G 2391 – Initial and Periodic Inspection & Testing (or equivalent)
- C&G 2377 – In service Inspection and Testing
