We are looking for a Materials Planning Manager to join our successful team at our head office in York (must be local).

As a Materials Planning Manager, you will lead and manage all materials scheduling activities for the York site, providing high customer service, minimal operational disruption caused by materials shortages (External) and optimising inventory levels. The role will be in charge of leading continuous improvement and transformation to the current process and systems while leading a team of Materials Schedulers.

In this role you will:

  • Lead, develop and manage the Materials Planning team so people management skills are essential for this role.
  • Ensure materials are available on time to deliver the production plan for the York site, via ensuring implementation of MRP policy, review of MRP lights and overdue purchase orders, follow the right escalation process and action to mitigate shortages and risks.
  • Liaise daily with the manufacturing team to mitigate materials shortages and avoid production inefficiencies, working on systemic fixes with suppliers, stores, production scheduling, manufacturing and sales planning.
  • Manage collaborative relationships with various stakeholders from the business, acting as an operation process lead with a can-do attitude and positive mindset, initiating and leading continuous improvement actions that would enable more efficient execution of the business plans and supply chain strategy.
  • Initiate, develop and manage processes and system improvements to increase customer service, reduce material shortages, reduce slow and non-movers inventory (value and space) and reduce direct reports firefighting.
  • Lead materials supplier performance improvement plan for New Build in close collaboration with central procurement, defining KPIs and implementing systemic actions.
  • Manage performance, succession planning and ER activity.
  • Create employee engagement initiatives aimed to create a positive work environment and boost employee motivation and commitment.
  • Produce personal development plans, increasing and managing performance, ensuring the team has the right structure, skills level, standard processes and accountability.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Solid understanding of Materials Resource Planning procedures, production planning and capacity planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to people manage and coach a team to consistently deliver high-quality results.
  • Initiative and leadership skills to improve processes and manage change.
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret technical information from multiple sources.
  • Strong communication, organisational and IT skills, with proficiency in ERP systems and Excel.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships both internally and externally, with a can-do attitude and positive mindset to deliver the best for Portakabin.
  • Degree or higher qualification in supply chain, business administration or engineering.
