We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to further their electrical studies and begin their career through an Electrical Apprenticeship. This role provides structured training, valuable on the job experience, and the chance to develop skills that will set you up for long-term success.

At Portakabin, we provide modular buildings for hire and sale for organisations of any size, in sectors ranging from manufacturing, education and health to transport, utilities and construction. We’re looking for a motivated Electrical apprentice who will bring energy, creative new ideas and a fresh perspective to help Portakabin continue to innovate, lead and transform the world of modular buildings.

As an Electrical Apprentice at Portakabin, you will be based at our Newcastle Hire and Service Centre. You’ll work alongside experienced electricians to learn how to install, maintain and repair electrical systems safely and professionally. You’ll gain hands on experience with wiring, testing, diagnostics, and fault finding across a variety of equipment and environments. Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll develop your technical skills, work to industry standards, and contribute to real projects that keep our operations running smoothly. You will have various channels of support including your line manager, Chargehand supervisor, colleagues, and a mentor. You will also connect with other apprentices across the business to create support networks and share experiences. Your four year Level 3 Electrical apprenticeship will be delivered through a blended learning approach, supported by our learning provider. Our apprenticeship has been designed to support you at every stage of your development, and throughout the programme you will be stretched, challenged and fully supported by a business that is committed to your professional growth.

We are only considering candidates that hold a minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation. If you are looking to start a career in the Electrical trade, then we would be delighted to hear from you!

Role Details:

  • Salary: £8.16 per hour (first year)
  • Role based: Newcastle Hire and Service Centre, NE11 0LA
  • Contract type: Your working pattern will be 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 07:45 to 16:30, finishing on Friday at 15:30 (inclusive of lunch breaks).
  • Annual leave of 24 days annual leave + bank holidays

In this role you will be required to:

  • Understand applying the electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Health and Safety practices and all applicable legislation to encourage and maintain a zero harm environment and culture.
  • Ensure that buildings are tested to the required standards where necessary whilst under supervision.
  • Support on supplementary process-based tasks where required, that may not be directly electrical related.

Essential Requirements:

  • Maths and English GCSEs at Grades 9 - 4 (A*- C)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation
  • A candidate with a positive attitude and a real desire to learn
  • Good practical skills and confidence using basic tools
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to working safely
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and communicate clearly
  • Good timekeeping and reliability
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to complete coursework and training requirements.
