  • Company car – Full UK driving licence required
  • Annual leave: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays, with an option to purchase an additional 5 days each year

Job Overview

The Building Control Manager (Project Delivery) delivers a strategic plan to support Portakabin’s growth targets by utilising building control services to support project delivery and minimise design and compliance risks.

The Manager meets with internal stakeholders and supply‑chain representatives, ensuring that building‑control activities are aligned with regional commercial and project‑delivery practices and central‑function requirements.

Responsibilities

Strategic Delivery

  • Execute building‑control applications efficiently and on time, aligning with business goals.
  • Support GB Hire in achieving divisional targets by applying a ‘right‑first‑time’ approach.
  • Improve effectiveness and efficiency through best‑practice building‑control processes.
  • Develop building‑control knowledge via third‑party engagement and training.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to provide commercial, operational, and project‑delivery support.
  • Collaborate with third‑party suppliers, managing their application to best serve Portakabin projects.
  • Set clear expectations for stakeholders and demonstrate honesty and openness at all times.

Collaboration and Risk Management

  • Identify supply‑chain gaps and collaborate with the National Building Control Manager to source improvements.
  • Assign applications and workload to the most suitable third‑party supplier for each project.
  • Collaborate with the regional Planning Manager where required.

Business & Customer Focus

  • Deliver customised solutions for clients that meet specific business or operational needs.
  • Support internal stakeholders with their objectives through an engaged and collaborative approach.

Sub‑Contractor Performance Management

  • Identify the performance of subcontractors and collaborate with the National Building Control Manager on improvements.
  • Maintain positive subcontractor relationships, ensuring SLA compliance and appropriate notice for inspections.

Innovation

  • Develop new products, services, and continuous improvements using colleague and customer insights.
  • Approach new business changes with an open mindset.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with legislation changes.

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong experience working closely with internal stakeholders to provide commercial, operational, and project‑delivery support.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering within agreed timeframes.
  • Skill in structuring information to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience.
  • Experience negotiating and persuading to gain clear agreement and commitment from others.
  • Experience producing a range of solutions to problems.
  • Ability to staff development and coaching.
  • Independence and initiative in driving new projects.
  • Track record of improving efficiency and optimisation.
  • Monitoring performance against deadlines and milestones.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office packages, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above.
