Location: Port of Tilbury London Ltd, Leslie Ford House

Hours: 40 hours per week (Alternate shifts of 0600 to 1400 Monday to Friday, 1400 to 2200 Monday to Friday, 2200 to 0600 Sunday to Thursday)

Compensation: £66,304 + £5,254 shift allowance

About The Role

The Port of Tilbury Grain Terminal is the UK’s largest grain handling facility for both imports and exports. As Engineering Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting the terminal’s operational performance by planning and delivering reactive and planned maintenance across plant, equipment and engineering systems. You will supervise the engineering team, respond promptly to faults and breakdowns, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with company and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and co-ordinate planned maintenance, breakdown repairs and condition monitoring activities across all plant and equipment.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the Grain Terminal’s plant and equipment to support efficient repairs and minimise downtime.
  • Plan, oversee and co-ordinate the installation of new plant, equipment and modifications to existing systems.
  • Ensure reactive maintenance tasks are delivered safely, effectively and in line with operational priorities.
  • Develop and review safe systems of work, including risk assessments, method statements and supporting documentation.
  • Report any damage or misuse of plant and equipment promptly to Engineering, Operational or Management teams.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and managers, providing updates on breakdowns, repairs and equipment status.
  • Prepare engineering reports and provide signatures for statutory checks and other required documentation.
  • Carry out ancillary tasks such as fuelling, lubrication and cleaning where required to support uninterrupted workflow.
  • Work flexibly across workshops and operational areas, following all written, verbal and radio instructions from Engineering Managers.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced and hands‑on Engineering Supervisor with strong electrical and mechanical maintenance knowledge, excellent fault‑finding skills and the confidence to lead a small engineering team in a busy operational environment. You will be safety‑focused, organised and collaborative, with the flexibility to work a rotational shift pattern including weekends at the Port of Tilbury.

Skills & Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or similar, with 2–3 years’ maintenance experience.
  • Previous shift‑working experience, with flexibility to work a rotational shift pattern including weekends.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including PLCs, automation, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Experience with DSEAR and ATEX regulations, and COMPEX EX05/EX06 qualifications, is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Skilled in continuous electrical and mechanical fault‑finding within an industrial fixed plant and equipment environment.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety, environmental standards, quality management and food safety regulations.
  • Experience operating heavy plant and mobile platforms within a port or industrial environment.
  • Confident user of MS Office, including Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, team‑oriented approach.
  • Full Driving Licence, valid in the UK.
  • Full UK Working Rights.
