About The Role

- 2-3 years post graduate UK construction/civil engineering experience
- Full UK driving licence
This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious civil engineer technician at the beginning of your career to accelerate your skills within a complex, operational port environment. You'll work on diverse infrastructure projects ranging from quayside structures and pavements to drainage systems and utilities - all within a live, 24/7 operational setting that presents unique engineering challenges.
As a Civil Engineering Technician, you'll take genuine ownership of projects from inception through to completion, supported by our experienced Engineering leadership team. This isn't a graduate training scheme - you'll be managing real projects with budgets, programmes, and contractor interfaces from day one.
Typical Projects Include:
- Quayside and marine structure repairs and upgrades
- Internal road and pavement reconstruction & repair programmes
- Drainage and utilities infrastructure works
- Structural inspections and remedial works
- Port estate development projects supporting operational growth
This role requires regular site presence across the Port of Tilbury estate. Due to the operational nature of the port environment, regular remote working is not available. You must be within commutable distance of Tilbury.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery- Take ownership of civil engineering projects from feasibility through to practical completion
- Manage project programmes, budgets (typically £50k - £500k)
- Coordinate with operational teams to schedule works around 24/7 port activities
- Produce and update technical drawings using AutoCAD
- Develop scopes of works and review contractor designs and method statements
- Apply engineering principles to solve practical problems in a live operational environment
- Act as Client representative under CDM 2015 regulations
- Ensure contractors comply with port safety requirements and permit-to-work systems
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience and Qualifications:- BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering (or closely related discipline)
- 2-3 years UK construction or civil engineering project experience working with contractors on site
- AutoCAD proficiency - able to produce and modify civil engineering drawings
- Full UK driving licence - site travel is a daily requirement
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with competing priorities
- Practical problem-solving approach - able to make decisions on site
- Comfortable working independently whilst knowing when to escalate
