Job Description

Maraen is looking for an experienced and motivated Sustainability & Environment Advisor / Manager to join our team and play a key role in developing and delivering our environmental and sustainability agenda.

This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental professional who wants to make a genuine impact across a diverse and operationally focused business.

Working closely with our HSEQ and operational teams, you will provide specialist environmental and sustainability advice, ensure regulatory compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and help embed sustainable practices throughout the organisation.

\n

\n

The successful candidate will be comfortable working at both a strategic and practical level, engaging with senior management while also supporting operational teams across our facilities.

\n

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Monitor and manage environmental aspects across all our sites, including water, energy, and waste.
  • \n

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements, including Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and Water Discharge Consents, PPC & NORMS.
  • \n

  • Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics and improvement activities.
  • \n

  • Developing new or improved reporting templates and procedures to support sustainability reporting.
  • \n

  • Consulting with stakeholders and environmental regulators.
  • \n

  • Oversee the operation and compliance of the Effluent Treatment Plant.
  • \n

  • Manage waste handling, storage, disposal, and recycling activities.
  • \n

  • Carbon footprint baselining, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting at an organisational level.
  • \n

  • Ability to work independently and consult effectively with employees, management, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • \n

Essential Skills and Experience

\n

    \n
  • Recognised Qualification in sustainability.
  • \n

  • Professional membership (IEMA, ISEP or similar)
  • \n

  • Previous experience in an environmental compliance, environmental management, or similar role.
  • \n

  • Good understanding of carbon emissions sources and the different reporting scopes.
  • \n

  • Proven experience in an environmental, compliance, environmental management or sustainability role is desirable.
  • \n

  • A strong understanding of environmental legislation, consenting processes and regulatory requirements relevant to aquaculture operations.
  • \n

  • Competent in analysing data, identifying trends, and producing clear reports and recommendations.
  • \n

  • Experience managing environmental audits, accreditation schemes, and compliance programmes.
  • \n

  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
  • \n

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • \n

  • Willingness to travel and supporting the business in the Highlands and Aberdeen.
  • \n

  • Full valid UK driving licence.
  • \n

Desirable Skills and Experience

\n

    \n
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  • \n

  • Knowledge or experience of other environmental management processes such as water quality monitoring, pollution prevention, etc.
  • \n

  • Lead Auditor qualification for ISO 14001.
  • \n

This role is full-time and office based at Port of Nigg (IV19). Applicants must be able to commute daily to this location.

\n
