We’re looking for a Graduate Engineer to join our Engineering team and help shape the future of the Port’s infrastructure. You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of assets, from bridges and roadways to quay structures, berth equipment and operational systems contributing directly to the safe, reliable and sustainable operation of the Port.

This role is ideal for someone who is curious, proactive and eager to develop both technically and professionally. You’ll be supported by a Senior Engineer and work alongside internal specialists, consultants and contractors, gaining hands-on experience across design, inspection, asset management and project delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Asset inspections - Support and help oversee condition inspections, collate findings, interpret results and contribute to maintenance planning. Assist with assessments of existing structures and review consultant designs in line with standards and regulations.
  • Design & project support - Prepare design briefs, specifications, drawings, risk assessments and contract documents for new works, planned maintenance and reactive repairs.
  • Best practice engineering - Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure all works meet current standards and industry best practice.
  • Innovation & continuous improvement - Explore emerging construction methods, materials, inspection technologies and digital tools. Champion improvements that enhance efficiency, sustainability and whole life value.
  • Contract management - Support the assessment of contractors and consultants, and act as Employer’s Representative under NEC3/4 contracts, ensuring quality, safety and commercial compliance.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • BSc/BEng in an Engineering discipline (or similar)
  • Willingness to work towards professional membership
  • Awareness of H&S and environmental standards, including CDM 2015
  • Competent with Microsoft Office; awareness of AutoCAD, 3D modelling or project planning tools
  • Interest or experience in digital/low code tools (Power Apps, Power BI, Python, etc.)
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable)

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £27k
