The Port of Dover is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Digital Apprentice to join our IT team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification, developing valuable skills across IT Operations, Business Systems, Software Development and Digital Project Delivery.

As a Digital Apprentice, you'll combine formal learning with practical workplace experience, working alongside experienced professionals and supporting technologies that enable our people and business to operate effectively, securely and efficiently. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys problem solving, learning new technologies and wants to be at the forefront of digital innovation, including Artificial Intelligence, automation and Microsoft's modern workplace technologies. This is a Level 3 apprenticeship and the expected duration is 16 months plus end point assessment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Participate in a structured apprenticeship programme combining learning with real-world experience.
  • Gain exposure to multiple technology disciplines including IT Operations, Business Systems and Development.
  • Provide first-line IT support to colleagues, helping resolve technical issues and service requests.
  • Support the administration and maintenance of Microsoft 365, SaaS applications and business systems.
  • Develop practical experience using Microsoft Copilot, Artificial Intelligence and automation technologies.
  • Assist with the testing, implementation and support of new systems and technology enhancements.
  • Contribute to digital transformation and business improvement projects.
  • Create user guides, knowledge articles and training materials.
  • Help manage IT assets and technology equipment throughout their lifecycle.
  • Develop knowledge of cyber security, information governance and data protection.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Continuously develop your skills through mentoring, training and professional development opportunities.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above.
  • A genuine interest in Information Technology, Digital Services and emerging technologies.
  • Strong enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Comfortable using digital tools and technology.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work effectively in a busy environment.
  • An interest in Artificial Intelligence and how technology can improve the workplace.
  • Awareness of the importance of cyber security and responsible technology use.

Desirable

  • Experience using Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Awareness of AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or similar technologies.
  • Basic understanding of software, applications or website development.
  • Previous experience in a customer service, technology or support environment.

Hours of work: Monday – Friday 37.5 per week.

Salary: £16,575 p/a.

All offers of employment are subject to us obtaining satisfactory references (covering all education, training, employment and unemployment in the preceding 5 years) and there will be a pre-employment medical including a Drug and Alcohol test. We need to satisfy your Right to Work in the UK. Please be aware that all employees will be subject to background security checks in order to obtain a Dock Pass.
