As Civils/Structural Engineer, you'll act as an internal consultant, providing expert advice and technical assurance across capital and maintenance projects. You'll lead on condition inspections, assess asset performance, and develop sustainable maintenance strategies that align with our long‑term investment plans and environmental goals. You'll prepare and review designs, specifications, and contract documents for new construction, planned maintenance, and reactive works. You'll also act as Employer's Representative under NEC3/4 contracts and may be appointed as Principal Designer under CDM regulations. This is a role where innovation is encouraged—you'll stay ahead of emerging design methodologies, materials, and inspection techniques, championing their adoption where they add value.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop civil and structural strategies and feed into long‑term investment planning
- Review and approve technical designs and specifications, including paving designs
- Lead and report on condition inspections, plan efficient maintenance programmes
- Provide technical advice across capital and maintenance works
- Prepare design briefs, specifications, drawings, and contract documentation
- Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure quality delivery
- Assess contractors and consultants for safety and quality competency
- Line manage direct reports as required
What We're Looking For
- BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering or similar
- Minimum 3 years post‑graduate experience in civil engineering design and delivery
- Ideally working towards MICE, MStructE or equivalent professional membership
- Understanding of NEC contracts, CDM 2015, and HSE standards
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and structural engineering software
- Valid UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
- Knowledge of marine and confined space working (preferred but not essential)
