Acute Kidney Injury Clinical Nurse Specialist

Responsibilities
- Provide a high standard of safe clinical care and accurate record keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), national legislation, and local standards.
- Take personal responsibility for actions, omissions, and accountability in clinical practice.
- Practice within an ethical framework based on dignity and respect for patient safety.
- Assume daily responsibility for an in‑patient caseload, including assessment, care planning, and evaluation of prescribed care, medications, and education.
- Develop and manage a nurse‑led AKI follow‑up clinic, enhancing patient education and awareness.
- Collect and input data to reflect service activity and support audit processes.
- Embed AKI Standards of Care across all units and promote best practice within the multidisciplinary team.
- Engage in cross‑site work with Walsall Manor Hospital; possession of a driving licence is preferable.
- Contribute to organisational objectives by supporting continuous learning, evidence‑based practice, succession planning, and professional re‑validation.
- Network with peers across clinical disciplines, share knowledge through presentations and publications, and promote organisational culture of quality improvement.
Qualifications
- Current NMC registration and UK professional registration.
- Minimum two years’ recent experience in an acute area.
- Evidence of professional updating within the last three years relevant to the role.
- Experience caring for acutely unwell patients (desired).
- Health Assessment Course or willingness to undertake one within two years.
- Non‑medical prescribing course or willingness to undertake one within three years.
- Experience teaching or presenting to small or large groups.
- Disclosure and Barring Service check (Rehabilitation of Offenders Act exceptions).

Pay scheme: Agenda for Change – Band 6 (Salary £38,682 to £46,580 a year pro‑rata).
Contract: Permanent.
Working pattern: Part‑time, Flexible.
