About the Company

Our client is a well-established steel fabrication business based in Dudley, supplying high-quality fabricated steel solutions to the construction sector. Operating to Execution Class 2 standards, they manufacture and deliver a wide range of structural and secondary steelwork projects, including steel frames, beams, support structures, platforms, staircases, and large industrial gates. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking an experienced CAD Technician to join their friendly small team.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed 2D and 3D drawings for a range of steelwork and fabrication projects. Working closely with production and project management, you will help ensure designs are practical, accurate, and suitable for manufacture and installation. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, with only one day per week required in the Dudley office and the remainder working remote.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for structural and secondary steelwork projects.
  • Create fabrication, manufacturing, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Develop designs for steel frames, beams, support steelwork, industrial gates, and bespoke fabricated structures.
  • Prepare material schedules and supporting manufacturing documentation.
  • Liaise with workshop, production, and project teams to ensure designs are efficient and buildable.
  • Conduct site surveys and attend project sites when required to obtain measurements and technical information.
  • Support projects from initial design through to installation.
  • Ensure all drawings meet relevant industry standards and project specifications.

Qualifications

Previous experience working as a CAD Technician, CAD Draughtsperson, or similar within a steel fabrication & construction environment.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of structural steelwork, secondary steelwork, and fabrication processes.
  • Experience producing fabrication drawings for steel structures and construction-related projects.
  • Comfortable carrying out site surveys and engaging with site teams when required.
  • Ability to interpret engineering, architectural, and construction drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently within a remote-working environment.

Preferred Skills

The business is flexible regarding design software and is prepared to accommodate the right candidate. Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:

  • AutoCAD
  • Tekla Structures
  • Advance Steel
  • SolidWorks
  • Autodesk Inventor
  • Similar 2D or 3D CAD packages

Most importantly, applicants must have relevant steelwork and fabrication experience rather than experience with a specific software package.

Pay range and compensation package
