At Poole Alcock, we are looking for individuals with a law degree (or equivalent) who are either planning to undertake the LPC or SQE, have already completed it, or have finished their SQE and are now looking to gain their Qualifying Work Experience to join our family team as a trainee solicitor. This isn’t about ticking boxes or sitting on the sidelines. You will be joining a well-established team where you will be trusted, supported, and given real exposure from the outset. From day one, you will gain hands-on experience, work closely with experienced lawyers, and build confidence in dealing with clients and progressing matters — all within a firm that genuinely values doing things properly, with the client’s best interests at the heart of what we do.

Please note this is an office-based position, with your place of work being either based out of our Head Office in Northwich or our Sandbach office, both situated in Cheshire, North West England.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting solicitors with private family law matters, including divorce, separation, children matters, and financial remedy cases
  • Drafting correspondence, court forms, applications, statements, and other legal documents under supervision
  • Attending client meetings, taking notes, and dealing with routine follow-up correspondence
  • Liaising with clients, counsel, courts, experts, and third parties in a professional and empathetic manner
  • Preparing court bundles, hearing documents, chronologies, and briefing notes
  • Supporting fee earners with case progression and file management to ensure matters move forward efficiently
  • Managing diaries, appointments, limitation dates, and court deadlines accurately
  • Updating case management systems and ensuring electronic and paper files are maintained correctly
  • Carrying out legal research on family law procedures, case law, and legislation
  • Assisting with the preparation of financial disclosure documentation and supporting papers in matrimonial finance matters
  • Supporting urgent applications where required, such as injunction-related family work
  • Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive personal information with discretion
  • Developing an understanding of client care in sensitive and emotionally complex matters
