MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The role of a Junior Threat Analyst is to contribute to the collation of research and intelligence, and the production of industry leading terrorism research and threat analysis to educate and inform: internal Pool Re teams, Pool Re members, and any other relevant external stakeholders on the terrorism threat to the UK mainland.
The analyst will work alongside a team of threat analysts and risk consultants of varying seniority levels, who are all overseen by the Chief Strategy and Operations Officer (CSOO).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Maintain a detailed understanding of the UK threat landscape and relevant international trends and developments.
•Conduct research into terrorism-related incidents and news to inform key Pool Re stakeholders.
•Contribute to the research for, and writing of, publications, reports, and threat awareness products regarding the UK terrorism threat landscape and relevant international trends. This involves gathering Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and analysing gathered intelligence.
•Contribute to the maintenance of a global terrorism-related incidents database.
•Understand and apply the Professional Head of Intelligence Assessment’s (PHIA) Probability Yardstick to make assessments regarding terrorism threat and activity primarily in the UK, but also globally.
•Be prepared to deliver briefings regarding terrorism threat to Pool Re colleagues and member organisations.
•Support external research into specific issues related to the UK terrorism threat alongside practitioner experts and Pool Re’s government partners.
•Contribute to the development of Pool Re Solutions as a Centre of Excellence for understanding UK terrorism threat, acting as an ambassador for Pool Re in all internal and external situations.

•Requirement to work from the Pool Re offices in Central London at least three days a week.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS: (Include Essential and Desirable Skills, Competencies, Experience and Qualifications
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
-Knowledge and understanding of terrorism in the UK and globally, achieved through demonstratable practical experience or academic qualifications.
-Written communication skills: ability to write clear, concise, well-structured reports/articles adopting the Pool Re Solutions writing style.
-Research and analytical skills: ability to independently collect, analyse and assess relevant intelligence from multiple open sources (OSINT).
-Presentation skills: ability to brief and talk credibly and confidently about subjects related to terrorism threat in the UK.
-Software: Competence in using the Microsoft package including: Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook and Excel.
-Proactivity and Collaboration: Ability to self-motivate when working alone, but also able to work alongside other team members.
-Growth mindset: ability to embrace opportunities, learn and develop, adopt a positive approach to completing challenging tasks and work collaboratively to support colleagues to perform effectively in the workplace.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-6 months to 12 months + of relevant experience in a discipline related to terrorism and/or intelligence analysis. E.g., Intelligence Analysis, Investigations, Monitoring, etc.
-A completed Master’s or Undergraduate degree in a discipline related to terrorism. E.g., International Security, Criminology, International Relations, Intelligence Analysis, Political Violence, Conflict Studies etc.
EXPERIENCE:
Essential
-Understanding of terrorism and extremism in the UK and globally.
-Experience and/or exposure to intelligence analysis as a capability.
-Experience working with Open Source Intelligence (OSINT).
-Proven experience in collecting, reviewing, and analysing large amounts of research and information to draft reports/essays/papers.
-Experience in presenting or briefing to a small audience.
Desirable
-Previous experience in using the PHIA probability yardstick.
-Previous experience and/or interest in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or demonstrable evidence of working with quantitative information.
-Understanding of the UK insurance market, specifically in relation to reinsurance.
