Polytec are seeking a Senior PCB Design Engineer for our client based just outside Saffron Walden. You will play a key role in turning complex electronic designs into high-quality, manufacturable PCBs. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you'll collaborate closely with world-class RF, digital, power and analogue engineers to deliver PCB designs efficiently and to a high standard. You will help maintain the technical edge by managing relationships with PCB CAD vendors and manufacturing partners, negotiating quality, costs and timescales and overseeing the release of board information to suppliers. This role goes beyond PCB layout—you will be expected to contribute to developing and leading PCB design capability, driving excellence across tools, processes and supplier engagements and reporting directly to the Director of Hardware. Please note this role is subject to UK eyes only Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Generate manufacturable PCB designs from engineering schematics
  • Manage schematic and PCB footprint libraries, BoM scripting and manufacturing data-pack creation
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with PCB CAD vendors, PCB manufacturers and associated technology suppliers
  • Negotiate stack-ups, supplier timescales and costs with PCB and build contractors
  • Take technical responsibility for PCB design, manufacturing quality and supplier deliverables
  • Ensure all outputs meet agreed schedules, specifications and ISO9001 quality standards
  • Conduct internal and external design reviews with clear, confident presentation skills
  • Uphold high professional standards and continuously drive improvements in design and delivery efficiency

Requirements

  • Essential: HNC/HND or degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering
  • Essential: Minimum 5 years' experience in electronics hardware design and product development
  • Strong portfolio of completed PCB design projects
  • Experience with RF, microwave or millimetre-wave PCB design (highly desirable)
  • High proficiency in PCB design tools - Altium essential, Siemens PADS beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of SMT, DFA, DFM and IPC standards for high-reliability products
  • Good understanding of EMI/EMC requirements and best design practices
  • Experience collaborating closely with electronic and mechanical design teams
  • Ability to innovate and support engineers with complex design challenges
  • Confident communicator with strong supplier negotiation skills
  • Able to work independently, under pressure, with excellent organisational skills
