Polytec is looking for an experienced CNC Programmer to join our client based in Ely. Working closely with R&D and production departments, you will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC machinery to produce high-precision components in a high-mix, low-volume environment. You will also play a key role in process improvements, continuous improvement initiatives and supporting the introduction of new products into manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set and operate 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines
  • Support machining activities for prototype and production components
  • Use simulation software to verify machining programs prior to manufacture
  • Work with engineers to improve component manufacturability and production efficiency
  • Inspect components using metrology equipment to ensure compliance with engineering drawings
  • Support preventative maintenance activities and machine optimisation
  • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality and workplace organisation (5S)
  • Share best practice and collaborate with colleagues across multiple departments

Requirements

  • Apprenticeship trained or equivalent machining experience
  • Proven experience within a precision machining environment
  • Strong background in 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and select appropriate machining methods
  • Experience with Fanuc and/or Haas controls
  • Knowledge of precision measurement and inspection techniques
  • CAD/CAM software experience (such as SolidWorks, Mastercam or similar)
  • Experience of sliding head lathes would be advantageous
  • Wire EDM/Wire Erosion experience desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances and high levels of precision
