Polytec are seeking an experienced Procurement Specialist to join our Saffron Walden based client. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing sourcing, purchasing and supplier relationships across a variety of technical and operational categories. This hands-on role supports engineering, R&D, and operations teams by ensuring timely access to critical materials, components and services.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process: sourcing, quoting, negotiating, and raising POs
- Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers across technical and operational categories
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms
- Coordinate shipments, deliveries, and customs documentation
- Work closely with engineering and operations to understand requirements and timelines
- Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and component records
- Improve procurement processes, workflows, and documentation as the organisation scales
Requirements
Essential
- Experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain roles - ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or tech
- Strong negotiation and supplier-management skills
- Ability to read or clarify technical specifications
- Strong organisational, multitasking, and communication skills
- Familiarity with procurement systems, POs, and inventory processes
Desirable
- Experience in defence, aerospace, robotics, or hardware-focused tech
- Understanding of export controls and international shipping
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems
- CIPS qualification (or working towards it)
