Polypipe Building Products focuses on delivering solutions to the residential sector. The role oversees procurement activities for direct and indirect spend, identifies and manages incumbent suppliers and ensures procurement aligned with group processes and policies. It also covers planning to balance production with demand and to monitor KPI performance.

Responsibilities

  • Procurement: Own the procurement process for a defined list of local suppliers, including taking the lead on negotiations, new supplier sourcing and onboarding.
  • Develop the team to create and implement procurement strategies.
  • Identification and delivery of annual savings targets.
  • Meet cash conversion targets of improved supplier payment terms.
  • De-risk supply chain and ensure supply continuity through the rollout of supplier Framework Agreement contracts.
  • Work closely with group procurement for policy, process and to support centrally sourced products/services.
  • Produce statistical reports and analysis on spend, cost saving, cash conversion, contractual progress and KPI performance.
  • Ensure MRP is fully utilised, purchase orders are raised (direct and indirect), exception messages are managed, delivery dates updated, and order book is in real time.
  • Manage supplier performance, ensuring quality, cost and delivery against KPI’s.
  • Lead the P2P Process.
  • Planning: Collaborate with Product Managers, Sales, and Finance to build reliable demand forecasts.
  • Lead the S&OP process, ensuring supply capabilities are balanced with market requirements.
  • Lead the planning team to develop and manage translating demand into detailed production plans across multiple production lines, ensuring optimal resource utilisation and output efficiency.
  • Direct the team to monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules, adjusting for demand shifts, resource constraints, and line capacity.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Quality to minimise downtime and proactively resolve bottlenecks.
  • Lead the functional management of the ERP/MRP System, ensuring all activities are run through the systems.
  • Monitor and ensure availability of raw materials and components, whilst maintaining an economic stock position.
  • Measure Inventory and track performance via turnover, DSI and other KPI measures.
  • Ensure planning processes and procedures are fully documented and followed.

Additional Duties:

  • Provide development and training plans for all departmental staff.
  • Set annual objectives for the team aligned to the company strategy and objectives.
  • Key internal/external stakeholders – Group Procurement Director, Head Of Procurement, Operations Director, SMT, R&D, CI, Warehouse Manager, Production Manager, Quality, Finance, Suppliers.

Capabilities / Qualifications

  • Proven previous experience in a Procurement, Planning or Operational leadership role.
  • Be a strong negotiator who will lead commercial and contractual negotiations with suppliers on behalf of the business.
  • Track record of achieving cost saving, inventory and OTD targets.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the production planning process to improve efficiency.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) or equivalent qualification.
  • Manufacturing & engineering technical knowledge a must.
  • Strategic thinker with strong drive to succeed.
  • Computer literate - knowledge of Excel and Word essential, Previous IFS use an advantage.
  • Good communication skills, confident to present to SMT and above.
  • Highly motivated with ability to work under own initiative, making decisions to benefit the company.
