Role Overview

The HSE Manager provides strategic leadership and direction for all Health, Safety, and Environmental activities. This role ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements, drives continuous improvement in safety performance, and fosters a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation. The HSE Manager works closely with all departments and at all levels to minimise risk, enhance employee wellbeing, and support sustainable manufacturing practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with UK Health & Safety Regulations and maintain robust governance across multiple sites.
  • Develop and implement the company's HSE strategy, aligned with business objectives and industry best practice.
  • Lead risk assessments and safe systems of work across manufacturing, warehousing, transport and recycling operations.
  • Drive process safety initiatives including machine guarding, interlocks, chemical handling, and high‑temperature operations.
  • Lead environmental programmes covering waste reduction, recycling, emissions monitoring, and carbon‑reduction initiatives.
  • Oversee incident investigation processes, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective actions.
  • Build a proactive safety culture through behavioural safety programmes, coaching, and leadership visibility.
  • Lead external audits, regulatory inspections, and engagement with customers, suppliers, and industry bodies on HSE matters.
  • Mentor and develop your 6 direct reports through training, clear objectives, and succession planning.
  • Champion continuous improvement and ensure alignment to the Genuit Sustainable Solutions for Growth Strategy.

Skills and Experience

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
  • NEBOSH Environmental Management
  • Experience working in Health, Safety & Environmental Management
  • Experience in sustainability programmes, carbon reporting, and circular‑economy initiatives
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry, additives, and chemical hazard management
  • Experience with process safety, automation safety, and machine safeguarding
  • Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and plastics‑sector regulatory frameworks
  • Track record developing and implementing HSE strategy across multisite operations
  • Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
