Role
To lead, coordinate and develop the Engineering Team to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance across the site.
The role is responsible for managing engineering resources, overseeing contractor activities, and maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and equipment performance.
The Engineering Team Leader & Contractor Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring plant uptime, supporting production & site needs, and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering team to deliver planned, preventive, and reactive maintenance.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are planned, prepared, and executed safely and efficiently.
- Finalise and manage the maintenance schedule in coordination with the Engineering Coordinator.
- Align maintenance plans with Production Planning and ensure adherence.
- Attend daily production meetings to communicate engineering priorities and updates.
- Maintain accurate CMMS data, asset records, and work documentation.
- Identify and implement engineering improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all engineering contractors.
- Manage contractor scheduling, access, permits, and coordination of work.
- Ensure contractors are inducted, competent, compliant, and approved to work.
- Review and verify RAMS, permits, and safety documentation (including correct LOTO).
- Conduct point-of-work safety checks and intervene to stop unsafe work.
- Ensure all contractor work is completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standard.
- Manage day-to-day engineering team resources, including attendance, holidays, and sickness.
- Support team development through coaching, mentoring, and competency growth.
- Ensure full compliance with HSE rules and promote a strong safety culture.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and support 6S activity on site.
- Lead and participate in CI initiatives including Kaizen, 6S, and waste-reduction activities.
- Identify operational waste and drive corrective actions and improvement projects.
- Provide technical input and support on engineering projects, including parts specification.
Skills and Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical or electrical engineering, BTEC Higher National Certificate preferred.
- Minimum 5 years post-qualification engineering experience with safety driven mindset.
- Proven experience in engineering within manufacturing environment.
- Experience leading or supervising teams with ability to mentor and develop.
- Competent with CMMS, MS Office, and KPIs.
- Effective planning and prioritisation.
- Strong understanding of RAMS, PTW, LOTO, and contractor control with good experience in contractor management.
