Extrusion Tooling Preparation Operative – Polypipe Building Products

Overview
Polypipe Building Products delivers solutions to the residential sector by working with national and local developers, plumbing and heating engineers, general builders and groundworkers to provide above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater solutions, and hot and cold plastic plumbing products.

Responsibilities
- Cleaning, maintaining and repairing extrusion tooling.
- Inspecting tooling for wear or damage and recommending repairs or replacements where needed.
- Testing mechanical and electrical components before tools are released back into production.
- Keeping accurate maintenance records and reporting any recurring issues.
- Monitoring tooling consumables and maintaining suitable stock levels.
- Checking returned tooling to make sure it is complete and ready for use.
- Updating tooling reports once work has been completed.
- Working to the production plan to ensure tooling is available when required.
- Retaining last-off samples for future reference.
- Making sure all measurements and settings meet tooling specifications.
- Supporting colleagues by sharing knowledge on tooling care, cleaning methods and measurement techniques.
- Working with suppliers where required to help resolve quality issues or introduce new tooling developments.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience maintaining and repairing extrusion tooling.
- Good polishing skills and an eye for detail.
- Knowledge of tool steels, tool assemblies, alignment gauges and coating technologies.
- The ability to read engineering drawings and work to specifications.
- Experience using machinery for minor tooling repairs.
- Knowledge of continuity testing for heaters.
- A good understanding of safe cleaning methods and equipment.
- Mechanical problem‑solving skills.
- An understanding of extrusion processes or experience setting up extrusion lines.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to keep accurate records.
- Qualifications in Extrusion Technology, Mechanical Engineering or similar are an advantage.
- Experience with cranes, lifting and slinging, or FLT operation is also advantageous.
