Polypipe Building Products, part of the Genuit Group, is looking for a Materials Laboratory Technician to manage the day‑to‑day operations of our Materials Testing Laboratory, ensuring the quality and compliance of incoming raw materials and supporting new product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day operation of Materials Testing Laboratory at BHL, focusing on recycled PVC and PP materials.
- Carry out Batch Release Testing (BRT) and Process Verification Testing (PVT) on incoming raw materials in line with relevant standards, quality plans and procedures.
- Interpret, analyse and communicate test results to key stakeholders.
- Support new product development and process improvement projects within the moulding and extrusion departments.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, test methods, quality plans and industry standards.
- Complete and maintain accurate test sheets, reports and measurement records.
- Participate in third‑party audits and support audit preparation activities.
- Identify and communicate material failures or non‑conformances promptly.
- Develop, implement and maintain laboratory test procedures.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration and routine servicing.
- Complete all mandatory training requirements.
- Carry out all activities in accordance with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
- Follow safe systems of work and be responsible for own health and safety, and for colleagues.
- Comply with all relevant company policies, including the Driver Handbook and Substance Misuse Policy where applicable.
Skills & Experience
- Degree qualified in Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of recycled polymer grades, particularly PVC and PP, is advantageous.
- Previous laboratory experience is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging at all levels.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Self‑motivated, proactive and results‑focused.
- Positive and flexible approach to work.
- Strong team player, able to collaborate across departments.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for enhancing products and processes.
