Who we are:
PolyPhotonix is a well-established business specialising in bio-photonic research and development that designs, develops and manufactures non-invasive photonics based medical devices.
The company is based in Sedgefield, County Durham, North Yorkshire and has developed the Noctura 400 Sleep Mask, a light based, monitored ophthalmic treatment for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) and Diabetic Macular Oedema (DMO), which are the principal causes of blindness.
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our company as Healthcare Business Development Manager, with a good understanding of the eye mechanism, in particular Diabetic Eye disease.
This permanent and full-time role is ideally suited to a team player with a business development background in the healthcare sector, in particular ophthalmology and medical devices.
The focus of the role is:
- Drive revenue and growth by identifying and developing business opportunities
- Form relationships with key stakeholders such as Ophthalmologists, NHS business services, GPs, ICB’s and ICS’
- Build on and execute development strategies to achieve business objectives
- Develop solutions to maximise implementation and adoption of our product
- Work closely with relevant internal teams, such as marketing and product development
- Produce regular reports on business development activities including market trends
- Research and monitor industry trends and regulations
- Manage meetings, prepare business cases and proposals
- UK travel will be required for face-to-face meetings with relevant stakeholders, such as Ophthalmologists, NHS hospitals etc, and attend/present at exhibitions

Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong background in Business Development
- Experience working within eye healthcare industry, such as ophthalmology, optometry
- Feels comfortable speaking and presenting to patients and healthcare professionals
- Excellent team player at all levels who shares information freely
- Self-starter with strong personal motivation and flexible attitude
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Packages to intermediate level (Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel spreadsheets)
Skills and experience that would be an advantage
- Good knowledge of NHS Part IX Drug Tariff, prescribing formularies, ICB/ICS engagement, diabetic eye screening, GP practices.
- Commercial experience in Ophthalmology, medical devices or a related field
- Knowledge of NICE pathways for high-cost drugs and low-cost medical devices
Qualifications
Any of the following qualifications would be an advantage
- Healthcare Science degree in any of the following or similar fields:
– Ophthalmic
– Vision Science
– Biomedical Science
- Other related qualifications will be considered
- Professional qualification in Business Development Management
Drivers Licence:
As there will be some travel required, a driving licence is essential for this role
