Polydrain Civils is looking for a Technical Design Engineer to join our team. This role is open to experienced engineers as well as graduates or early-career candidates, with responsibilities, support, and development tailored to the individual. Itβs an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on design experience while learning about the wider business.

Polydrain Civils is a UK manufacturer of drainage and water management products, proudly Made in Britain. As a family-owned business, we are known for quality, reliability, and long-term customer relationships. Operating from our 3-acre, state-of-the-art facility in West Bromwich, we design and manufacture a wide range of drainage solutions for civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK.
The Role
As a Technical Design Engineer at Polydrain, you will:
- Produce technical designs, drawings, and specifications for drainage and water management solutions using AutoCAD (or similar)
- Carry out engineering calculations (hydraulic, structural, flow control) as required
- Ensure designs comply with SuDS principles, and local authority, highway, and water company requirements
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including datasheets, manuals, and design guidance
- Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with production, quality, operations, and commercial teams to ensure designs are practical and feasible
- Gain exposure to wider business operations, including manufacturing, operations, and sales

Skills & Experience
- Strong interest or background in civil engineering, drainage, water management, or infrastructure-related engineering
- Ability to produce technical drawings using AutoCAD or similar software
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to interpret technical information and apply industry standards
- Clear communication and teamwork skills
- Proactive, organised, and professional approach
- Degree / HNC / HND in a relevant discipline
- Experience with hydraulic or drainage calculations
- Knowledge of BS EN 1433, BS EN 124, CIRIA guidance, BSI and BBA standards
- Experience with drainage design software (e.g., MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage)
- Experience producing technical documentation
- Full UK driving licence

Location & Working Pattern
Full-time, site-based at our West Bromwich facility. Occasional travel to customer sites may be required. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
