Overview
The successful candidate will work directly with the Head of Risk Management to manage and continually develop the risk management framework for Polo Managing Agency and all syndicates under its management, including taking the lead in key processes such as the ORSA, risk appetite and risk tolerances development and monitoring, risk and control assessments, risk incidents and emerging risks reporting. This role will involve working closely with all areas of the managing agency to manage and report upon the entirety of the business risk profile, and offers broad exposure to and significant interaction with the business at all levels of seniority.
Key Responsibilities
- To contribute to the development of PMA’s Risk Management Framework and ensure this continues to reflect market best practice.
- To provide input into the development and enhancement of each syndicate’s risk appetite framework, including development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of risk tolerance metrics and thresholds.
- To update and maintain risk and control registers, including reviewing sources of risk, risk response strategies and the effectiveness of the controls used to mitigate the risk(s) to the business.
- To lead risk and control assessments, ensuring that key controls are identified, documented and that their design and operational effectiveness is assessed.
- To perform bespoke risk analysis, including independent risk assessments as per the annual risk management plan, including scenario analysis, as applicable.
- To provide risk management support and expertise as well as second line risk oversight and challenge to PMA’s portfolio of projects, ensuring that key projects risks are identified, assessed and mitigated appropriately.
- To support the onboarding of new syndicates, including risk assessments and facilitating Lloyd’s Making it Happen.
- To manage the risk incident process, assessing potential impacts to the business following incidents, to consider appropriate actions and to complete root cause analyses, as required.
- To contribute to the development and monitoring of stress testing, scenario analysis and reverse stress testing, including operational risk scenarios inputs into syndicate Internal Models, where these are in place.
- To maintain and enhance the emerging risks register and framework.
- To take the lead in the delivery of quarterly and annual ORSA processes, including the production of relevant ORSA/OSCA/ other regulatory risk reports.
- To support the validation of managed syndicates’ internal models.
- To provide risk services as an outsourced serviced syndicates under management.
- To review and update, where necessary, risk management policies in line with governance requirements.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Educated to degree level and/or relevant professional qualification, e.g., Institute of Risk Management and Chartered Insurance Institute.
- Experience in roles within London Market risk management teams; Lloyd’s experience would be advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and communicate with individuals at all levels, including Director/Senior Management.
- Excellent attention to detail, highly numerate, literate and analytical, with the ability to convey risk management information in a way that is meaningful to the end users.
- Team player with the ability to work independently on own initiative and to tight deadlines.
- Excellent experience in Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience of using risk software is advantageous.
