About the Role

Energy performance can change long before anyone notices it on a utility bill. Reliable analysis helps uncover where consumption is rising, which buildings or systems are operating inefficiently, and where practical changes could reduce both cost and carbon emissions.

As an Energy Data Analyst, you will collect, validate, and analyse electricity, gas, water, and other utilities data across operational sites. You will turn raw meter readings and billing information into clear performance reports, investigate unusual consumption patterns, and provide the information needed to support energy-efficiency and net-zero projects.

The role combines detailed data work with practical investigation. One day may involve reviewing half-hourly electricity data and identifying an unexpected overnight load, while another could focus on checking meter accuracy, preparing a performance dashboard, or measuring the savings achieved after an energy-efficiency upgrade.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and maintain electricity, gas, water, and other utility-consumption data.
  • Review automated and manual meter readings for accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyse energy-use patterns across buildings, equipment, and operational locations.
  • Identify unusual consumption, spikes, gaps, or inconsistencies requiring investigation.
  • Maintain energy databases, spreadsheets, and reporting systems.
  • Prepare regular energy-performance and consumption reports.
  • Develop dashboards showing usage, cost, carbon emissions, and performance trends.
  • Compare actual consumption against historical performance, budgets, and targets.
  • Assist with validating utility bills against recorded meter information.
  • Investigate discrepancies between supplier billing and internal consumption data.
  • Coordinate meter-reading schedules and maintain associated records.
  • Support calibration, replacement, and maintenance of metering equipment.
  • Calculate carbon emissions associated with energy consumption.
  • Provide data for sustainability, ESG, and net‑zero reporting.
  • Measure the performance of completed energy‑efficiency projects.
  • Support business cases for lighting, heating, renewable‑energy, or building‑control improvements.
  • Work with facilities and engineering teams to understand unexpected changes in consumption.
  • Maintain accurate records of tariffs, meters, accounts, and utility suppliers.
  • Assist with energy forecasting and annual consumption planning.
  • Improve reporting processes by reducing manual data handling where possible.

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience in energy analysis, utilities management, data analysis, sustainability, facilities, or a related analytical position.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, lookups, and data manipulation.
