About the role
Imperial College London’s Department of Computing is a world-leading Computer Science department, with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. With around 1,000 taught students, the Department develops innovative software to support teaching, learning and assessment.
As part of the EdTech team, you will help design, build and operate software used every day by staff and students. You will work closely with users to understand their needs, develop new features, deploy and maintain reliable systems, and contribute to their ongoing improvement.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly technical and collaborative academic environment, using modern software engineering practices and technologies including Python, TypeScript and React. You will also have the opportunity to work with academic colleagues and students, bringing professional software engineering practice into the curriculum and exploring how new technologies, including AI and automation, can enhance education.
What you would be doing
You will be part of the EdTech team, designing, developing and operating innovative software that supports teaching, learning and assessment across the Department. You will maintain and continuously improve production systems, working closely with academic and professional services colleagues and students to understand their needs and deliver effective, reliable solutions using modern software engineering practices.
You will also contribute directly to education through teaching, tutorials, mentoring and student project supervision, as well as providing guidance and training to colleagues on the use of educational technologies. You will collaborate with colleagues across the College and contribute to the wider digital education community.
Alongside software development and teaching, you will have opportunities to explore and evaluate new technologies and approaches to educational technology, using evidence and research to inform improvements. You will contribute to the sharing of good practice and maintain your professional development, while supporting the team's continuous improvement and taking part in relevant departmental activities.
