We have five disciplines – Data Management, Engineering, Science, Analytics, and Visualisation – that collaborate with the rest of the business to drive incremental value through data, operational excellence, and business agility.

About the Data Management team:

The Data Management team is responsible for ensuring our data is reliable (documented, understood and trusted) and compliant (secure and effectively governed), and the organisation is empowered with a culture of data-driven decision-making. Working alongside the Enterprise Data Architect and the Data Protection Manager, the team sets data management standards and policies, and implements modern, scalable data governance frameworks and tooling that support our ambitious analytics and AI roadmap.

Your day to day:

  • Develop, own, and implement a modern, integrated data governance strategy that supports our analytics and AI ambitions, aligning closely with our Data Strategy and governance framework.
  • Define data domains collaboratively with the Enterprise Data Architect, enabling clear data ownership and stewardship responsibilities across the organisation.
  • Establish, communicate, and enforce data governance policies, ensuring they are scalable, cost-efficient, and metadata-driven.
  • Co-ordinate the resolution of data governance issues efficiently and sustainably, promoting a culture of accountability and proactive data management.
  • Drive data democratisation by empowering business users to access and leverage data in a compliant and responsible manner.
  • Facilitate data literacy and stewardship across Policy Expert, helping colleagues understand and confidently engage with data governance principles and practices.
  • Establish clear data lineage, discoverability, and compliance standards and policies, and ensure comprehensive documentation and metadata management via modern tools (e.g. GCP Dataplex, OpenMetadata, SQLMesh).
  • Scale the team with Data Governance Analysts when appropriate.

Who are you:

  • An experienced Data Governance professional with proven expertise in developing and implementing modern, scalable data governance frameworks, ideally in cloud environments (preferably GCP).
  • Knowledgeable about current trends in data governance, including metadata-driven governance, AI governance implications, and industry best practices.
  • Skilled in collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to clearly define data domains, ownership structures, and stewardship processes.
  • Experienced in leveraging modern data cataloguing and governance tools such as GCP Dataplex or OpenMetadata to ensure comprehensive data discoverability and lineage.
  • Adept at enforcing non-invasive governance policies seamlessly within data platforms, supporting effective compliance and risk management.
  • Familiar with insurance or similarly regulated industries, understanding the implications of regulatory requirements on data governance.
  • Strong communicator and influencer, capable of fostering a culture of data accountability and stewardship across diverse teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Forward-thinking, continually seeking opportunities to innovate and enhance data governance practices to support evolving analytics and AI initiatives.
