Police Now recruits and trains graduates and career changers with leadership potential to become inspirational police officers and outstanding crime fighters on our National Graduate Programme. Graduates can pursue a variety of specialisms working in Neighbourhood Policing, as a Detective or within Counter Terrorism or Economic Crime units. Police Now aims to create systemic change. We need highly capable impactful staff to support the recruitment and development of our officers and to cultivate strong relationships with partner forces and the wider sector.
The purpose of your role
The Performance and Development Team has a focus on participant impact and leadership development. The role of the Performance and Development Coach is critical to this. As a Performance and Development Coach, you will coach, develop, support and challenge participants to:
- Successfully complete the two-year Police Now programme within their chosen specialism.
- Demonstrate tangible impact and improve the public's confidence in policing.
- Deliver outstanding performance and drive positive change in the Police Service.
- Progress into alumni status with the necessary skills and competencies should they aspire to become leaders with rank.
Key responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 development and support to your participant portfolio of circa 80 participants across multiple Police Forces.
- Hold high impact coaching sessions with participants. All of these sessions will be done digitally via MS Teams.
- Provide support to participants whilst they are at the Police Now Academy (In person and digitally via MS Teams).
- Take an active interest in all aspects of the Police Now participant experience and programme completion post Academy, ensuring you are equipped to provide timely and accurate advice and guidance.
- Monitor participant progress through the two-year programme, identifying where and if risk exists, and escalate where required to Police Now colleagues and Force personnel.
- Provide timely updates on your participant portfolio development and progress to Police Now colleagues and Force personnel.
- Using Police Now systems, report on and record all coaching, support and contact with your participants.
You may, on occasion, be required to undertake additional or other duties within the context of this job description and according to the needs of the organisation for example supporting with Police Now participant alumni coaching, delivering role related content at programme events, and supporting with participant affinity networks.

What you’ll need
- Qualification in Coaching and Mentoring (or equivalent), or if you do not hold this a demonstrable portfolio of people development through coaching.
- High levels of personal organisation and a willingness to work autonomously.
- Willing to work remotely and manage own time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks.
- Ability to manage difficult conversations and deliver challenging feedback.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Confidence presenting to varying group sizes with experience of facilitation and delivery in person and/or online.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Comfortable with a wide range of digital platforms e.g. Salesforce CRM, Microsoft Office, Brightspace.
- A willingness to travel across England and Wales where required, and stay overnight at Police Now Academies.
