Police Digital Service (PDS) is recruiting on behalf of the NPCC National Data & Analytics Office , a dedicated national capability transforming data use in policing.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a ground-breaking function within policing which will shape the future of data and analytics in UK law enforcement and help to utilise policing data to better protect the public. The NDAO will ensure:
- Responsible data use across law enforcement
- Improved data governance and standardised datasets
- Enhanced data analytics services to support operational decision-making
- Professionalisation of data roles within policing
- A more integrated data-sharing ecosystem across forces
Salary starting at £75,000pa . This role is a Fixed Term for 12 months and you will be seconded from PDS into the NPCC & Data Analytics office.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of data analytics frameworks and methodologies. This is achieved by working closely with policing stakeholders to identify requirements, align solutions with operational priorities, and incorporate best practices.
- Provide expert guidance on data analytics standards and governance. This is achieved by collaborating with DPO's, the National Standards Assurance Board, and other stakeholders to develop and promote compliance frameworks.
- Engage with national and local policing stakeholders to align data analytics initiatives with operational needs. This is achieved through regular meetings, presentations, and one-on-one engagements to gather input, share progress, and address challenges.
- Develop and maintain national data analytics capabilities and tools. This is achieved by overseeing the design and delivery of dashboards, models, and other analytics products in collaboration with data engineers, scientists, and external partners.
- Establish and drive adoption of national data standards. This is achieved by collaborating with data owners and governance bodies to define, refine, and disseminate data standards across UK Policing.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with senior stakeholders and external partners. This is achieved through clear communication, advocacy for data-driven approaches, and regular updates on analytics initiatives. Monitor and evaluate the performance of data analytics initiatives. This is achieved by developing key performance indicators (KPIs), tracking progress, and addressing risks or challenges as they arise.
- Drive innovation and adoption of emerging analytics technologies. This is achieved by researching trends, engaging with industry experts, and piloting new approaches tailored to policing needs.
What you need to succeed in the role
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, particularly with senior leaders and non-technical audiences, to influence decision-making and foster trust.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data analytics concepts in plain language.
- Proficient in the use of data analytics tools and platforms (e.g., Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, or similar) and capable of guiding their implementation across teams.
- Ability to define and measure key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and improve data analytics initiatives.
- Exceptional organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and develop a high-performing data analytics culture.
- Extensive experience in leading and delivering large-scale data analytics initiatives, ideally within the public sector, policing, or similar complex environments.
- Demonstrated success in building and maturing data analytics capabilities within an organisation, including the establishment of frameworks and processes.
- Experience managing and developing multi-disciplinary teams encompassing data scientists, engineers, and analysts.
- Track record of driving data innovation and implementing transformational change in alignment with organisational strategy.
- Experience working collaboratively across diverse organizations and managing cross-agency relationships.
- Proven ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and ensure compliance in data-related initiatives.
- In-depth understanding of data analytics principles, methodologies, and best practices, including data governance, security, and ethical considerations.
- Proven knowledge of advanced analytics, data engineering, and data visualisation disciplines and how they integrate within a data ecosystem.
- Familiarity with data product development, data mesh concepts, and their applications in complex organisations.
- Comprehensive understanding of the current trends, innovations, and technologies within the data analytics industry.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards governing data use within UK Policing, including GDPR and other security frameworks.
- Degree-level education in a relevant field such as data science, analytics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Working Arrangements
This is a remote role with occasional travel required to attend meetings.
All applicants must be eligible to undergo NPPV3 (Non Police Personnel Vetting Level 3 )and SC vetting clearances. Successful applicants will require NPPV3 clearance to have been cleared before starting with PDS.
