Located in Headingley, Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old. Within the Polaris Community, we have seven SEN Schools across the UK that work together to provide each young person with a tailored, diverse, and appropriate education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes engagement, inspires learning, and encourages achievement. Role responsibilities
- To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Ormston School
- Work with members of the Education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
- To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
- To lead classes during PPA and absence cover
- To deliver an enrichment activity
- To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
- To respond to immediate concerns clarifying the situation
- To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
- To assist in the preparation of information relevant to the meetings about pupils
- To be an advocate for the ethos of Ormston School
- To lead on Intervention which includes Reading and Phonics - reviewing progress made by young people
- To develop the role of Pupil Voice Liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
- To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits
Requirements
- Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
- Previous experience in a similar role i.e., HLTA, Cover Supervisor
- Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH/Autism within an educational setting
- Experience of behaviour management and techniques
- Committed to professional development and willing to learn
- Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work
