Located in Headingley, Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with Special Education Needs and Disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old. Our mission is to provide each young person with a diverse and appropriate education that encourages aspiration and achievement.

Within the Polaris Community, we have seven SEN Schools across the UK that work together to provide each young person with a tailored, diverse, and appropriate education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes engagement, inspires learning, and encourages achievement. Role responsibilities

  • To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Ormston School
  • Work with members of the Education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
  • To promote positive learning behaviour with young people
  • To lead classes during PPA and absence cover
  • To deliver an enrichment activity
  • To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need
  • To respond to immediate concerns clarifying the situation
  • To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
  • To assist in the preparation of information relevant to the meetings about pupils
  • To be an advocate for the ethos of Ormston School
  • To lead on Intervention which includes Reading and Phonics - reviewing progress made by young people
  • To develop the role of Pupil Voice Liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
  • To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits

Requirements

  • Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role i.e., HLTA, Cover Supervisor
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH/Autism within an educational setting
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn
  • Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work
