Polaris Education - Ormston School is looking for a new Tutor (ELSA/Wellbeing) to join our team. This is an exciting time as we continue to develop and grow! Located in Headingley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to shape the school to create a supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, engagement, and inspires learning. Our mission is to provide each young person with a diverse and appropriate education that encourages aspiration and achievement.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience, and behaviour management within Ormston School.
- Work with members of the education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning.
- Promote positive learning behaviour with young people.
- Lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
- Deliver an enrichment activity.
- Support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional, or behavioural need.
- Respond to immediate concerns clarifying the situation.
- Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered.
- Assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils.
- Be an advocate for the ethos of Ormston School.
- Lead on intervention which includes reading and phonics - reviewing progress made by young people.
- Develop the role of Pupil Voice liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council.
- Develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits.
- Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority.
Requirements:
- Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
- Previous experience in a similar role i.e., HLTA, Cover Supervisor.
- Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH/Autism within an educational setting.
- Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
- Committed to professional development and willing to learn.
- Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.
