Polaris Education is seeking a School Caretaker for our new school in Andover. This role offers a basic salary and is a full-time position. The successful candidate will join a supportive and nurturing community dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for its pupils.

Located in Andover, our school has the capacity for up to x pupils and provides a safe and supportive environment for children with a range of complex needs. We are committed to fostering a positive atmosphere where every child feels valued and empowered.
Role Responsibilities
- Maintaining clean, safe and secure school premises, including building and grounds.
- Carrying out cleaning, handy person activities, routine maintenance and refurbishment, porterage, and minor repairs.
- Supervising school cleaning staff.
- Promoting health and safety around the school.
- Carrying out porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
- Maintaining the general school premises, furniture and fittings, and reporting issues to the Head Teacher.
- Carrying out small repairs and DIY projects.
- Arranging larger repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors.
- Carrying out daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, such as litter picking and waste disposal.
- Carrying out emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and cleaning up spillages.
- Arranging an annual deep clean of classrooms and other frequently used spaces.
- Taking responsibility for the maintenance of cleaning tools and products.
- Maintaining the security of the school premises as the main key holder.
- Locking and unlocking the premises as required.
- Checking that all windows, doors and gates are locked at the end of the school day.
- Setting security alarm systems and responding to alarms or call outs.
- Carrying out regular checks of CCTV, alarm systems, locks, fire safety appliances, and perimeter fencing.
- Advising the Head Teacher on matters relating to school security and safety.
- Ensuring a safe working and learning environment in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Carrying out and recording regular health and safety checks.
- Providing safe access to the school in cold weather conditions.
Requirements
- Previous property maintenance/caretaking experience within a school environment preferred.
- Experience of building maintenance.
- Experience of security including alarm systems.
- Good knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Basic DIY skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Ability to work in an environment with SEMH children.
- Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
- Must have a UK Driving License and own transport.
