Polaris Education – Ormston School is looking for a new Tutor who will lead on the wellbeing of young people and staff, including the role of ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant). Located in Headingley, Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old. With significant investment and an abundance of new resources, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to shape the school to create a supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, engagement, and inspires learning.

Role Responsibilities
- To support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Ormston School.
- Work with members of the education team to support young people’s personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning.
- To promote positive learning behaviour with young people.
- To lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
- To support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need.
- To respond to immediate concerns clarifying the situation.
- To create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered.
- To assist in the preparation of information relevant to the meetings about pupils.
- To be an advocate for the ethos of Ormston School.
- To lead on intervention which includes reading and phonics – reviewing progress made by young people.
- To develop the role of Pupil Voice liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council.
- To develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits.
- To lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority.
Requirements
- Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
- Previous experience in a similar role i.e., HLTA, Cover Supervisor.
- Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH/Autism within an educational setting.
- Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
- Committed to professional development and willing to learn.
- Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure.
