Polaris Education - Ormston School is looking for a new Tutor who will support curriculum delivery, including the role of cover supervisor. Located in Headingley, Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Ormston School.
  • Work with members of the education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning.
  • Promote positive learning behaviour with young people.
  • Lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
  • Deliver an enrichment activity.
  • Support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural need.
  • Respond to immediate concerns clarifying the situation.
  • Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered.
  • Assist in the preparation of information relevant to the meetings about pupils.
  • Be an advocate for the ethos of Ormston School.
  • Lead on intervention which includes reading and phonics - reviewing progress made by young people.
  • Develop the role of Pupil Voice liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council.
  • Develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits.
  • Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority.

Requirements:

  • Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar role i.e., HLTA, Cover Supervisor.
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH/Autism within an educational setting.
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques.
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn.
  • Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.
