Tutor (ELSA/Wellbeing) in Gildersome

Polaris Education - Ormston School is looking for a new Tutor who will lead on the wellbeing of young people and staff, including the role of ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant). Located in Headingley, Ormston School offers a safe and supportive environment for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities aged between 5 and 18 years old. Role Responsibilities

• Support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience and behaviour management within Ormston School
• Work with members of the Education team to support young people's personal and academic development by removing barriers to learning
• Promote positive learning behaviour with young people
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover
• Deliver enrichment activities
• Support in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional or behavioural needs
• Respond to immediate concerns, clarifying the situation
• Create and collate information relating to lessons and interventions delivered
• Assist in the preparation of information relevant to meetings about pupils
• Act as an advocate for the ethos of Ormston School
• Lead on interventions, including Reading and Phonics, reviewing progress made by young people
• Develop the role of Pupil Voice, liaising with SLT about the Pupil Council
• Develop relationships with parents/carers, taking an active role in transitions and consultation visits
• Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the Local Authority

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, i.e., HLTA or Cover Supervisor
• Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH/Autism within an educational setting
• Experience of behaviour management techniques
• Committed to professional development and willing to learn
• Must be willing to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work
