Merton College – a vibrant and diverse intellectual community that has been at the forefront of education and research at the University of Oxford since 1264 – is looking for a Chef de Partie to work under a multi-Michelin-star experienced Head Chef.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing, cooking and serving a wide variety of fresh foods, working in any section of the Kitchen as required.
- Ensuring that food served is of a high quality and on time.
- Ensuring a minimum of food is wasted.
- Cooperating fully with other team members.
- Receiving and storing food in accordance with regulations, including waste disposal.
- Complying with food hygiene and health and safety regulations and standards at all times.
- Putting forward ideas for new dishes and menus.
- Ensuring and maintaining a good working relationship with all staff.
- Undertaking any other duties or responsibilities which may be assigned from time to time.
Skills and Experience
- A recognised professional cooking qualification or equivalent experience: NVQ/SVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent; The 14–19 Hospitality & Catering diploma; City & Guilds diplomas in professional cookery; BTEC HND in professional cookery.
- A good knowledge of British & world foods.
- Able to take instruction from the Head Chef and Senior Chefs.
- A good standard of spoken & written English and able to follow written instructions.
- Experience of high-volume dining.
- Hard‑working approach, a commitment to learning, and good attention to detail.
- Accuracy and speed in executing tasks in a professional manner, even when under pressure.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and proactively help other team members.
- Able to cope with a busy and demanding environment.
- Flexibility to work a varied shift pattern.
30 working days’ holiday in addition to the normal English Bank and Public holidays. If you are rostered to work a Bank holiday, you will be given time off in lieu. Salary: Up to £32,600 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Contract and Hours: Permanent, 40 hours over 5 straight shifts per week, including some weekends and Bank holidays, with 2 consecutive days off per week.
Location: Merton College, Merton Street, Oxford, OX1 4JD.
