William Morris Sixth Form College – a vibrant inner-city learning community that has the individual student at the heart of everything it does – is seeking a Welfare and Curriculum Supervisor to manage student welfare, enrichment and the pastoral curriculum for Sixth Form students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with leadership and middle leadership staff in charge of safeguarding and student welfare to ensure high-quality support for the welfare of students across the Sixth Form.
  • Assisting in logging and managing concerns regarding student welfare, emerging concerns and safeguarding issues.
  • Supporting and liaising with relevant colleagues to be a first line of response when there are welfare issues that require immediate assistance.
  • Organising and/or leading individual and group support and guidance to students identified as needing support with managing their welfare, e.g., exam anxiety, etc.
  • Liaising with parents and carers as required to discuss individual students’ welfare and the interventions and actions required to support the student.
  • Attending meetings and working with external agencies to represent the Sixth Form, advocating for students and ensuring there are identified ways that the College can practically support them.
  • Drawing conclusions about whether a student and/or their siblings meet the threshold for Child Protection, Child in Need, Early Help or other categories.
  • Attending parents’ evenings and open events, as required, in order to provide information regarding students who are receiving welfare support.
  • Working with the AP with responsibility for enrichment to ensure a high-quality programme of enrichment is available and accessible to all students.
  • Managing the day-to-day running of the enrichment programme and coordinating enrichment information for staff, students and parents.
  • Supporting with the planning and implementation of the pastoral curriculum so that it meets statutory requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in tutoring, coaching or mentoring young people aged 16–19, particularly those who are disadvantaged.
  • Educated to a minimum of A Level equivalent, including GCSE grade C Level in both English and Mathematics (higher education qualifications desirable).
  • Experience working within a school or further education setting with an understanding of the needs of inner-city students in the 16–19 age range.
  • Experience developing successful links with external organisations to arrange one-to-one support and skills workshops.
  • Understanding of the range of current issues facing inner-city 16–19-year-olds and their families.
  • A willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as on your own initiative, including being able to prioritise your workload.
  • Ability to establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including identifying and liaising with appropriate resources and agencies of support.
  • The desire to help young people succeed.
  • Highly proficient in the use of IT systems, with an excellent working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, etc.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills and the ability to verbally present information to staff, students and parents.

Salary: £32,407.09 to £33,381.66 per annum (Scale 6, Spinal Points 18–20).

Hours: 36 hours per week, term-time only.
