The Bridge Academy – an exceptional secondary school with a strong commitment to academic rigour, evidence-informed practice and student success – is seeking a Maths Teacher to provide maternity cover from 1 September 2026 to 30 June 2027. You will join a high-performing and diverse Maths department committed to ensuring that all students fulfil their potential within a warm/strict culture built on the values of Hard Work, Integrity and Kindness.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering consistently good lessons.
- Ensuring students are engaged with and enjoy Maths.
- Raising the attainment of students and promoting Maths across the Academy.
- Planning, delivering and developing the Maths curriculum and enrichment activities.
- Maintaining high expectations of students’ behaviour and achievement and establishing excellent relationships with students.
- Monitoring and recording the progress of students using Assessment for Learning strategies and in accordance with Academy assessment policies.
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of developments within Maths.
- Working under the direction of the Head of Learning Area/Head of Department and with other subject areas to develop the curriculum, ensure that Maths contributes to the ethos of the Academy and promote the profile and status of the subject.
- Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of Academy policies and practices, including those designed to promote equality of opportunity.
- Contributing to Academy curriculum initiatives, particularly those pertaining to Maths, including KS2–3 transition, enrichment activities, cross-curricular planning, trips and extra-curricular clubs.
- Contributing to and building partnerships with parents, community groups and local organisations.
- Supporting the development of the Academy’s Maths provision.
- Ensuring Maths rooms are purposeful, stimulating and safe learning environments.
- Working with a range of stakeholders, including parents, other schools and local and national partners.
Skills and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status or working towards QTS.
- A degree or equivalent.
- Relevant specialist qualifications and experience, with the ability to teach up to Key Stage 4/5.
- Commitment to improving practice through reflection, professional development and being open to advice and feedback.
- Evidence of continuing professional development or relevant research.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of curriculum requirements and developments within Maths.
- Secure knowledge and understanding of Assessment for Learning strategies and effective personalised provision for all students, including those with English as an additional language and special educational needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
- Ability to motivate students and colleagues and respond to the diverse needs of learners.
- Ability to develop learners’ literacy, ICT and thinking skills within the subject area.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage time effectively.
- Strong moral purpose, passion for high-quality teaching and learning, and energy, enthusiasm, determination and an insistence on high standards.
