The Bridge Academy – an exceptional, high-performing and inclusive secondary school committed to ensuring every student succeeds at a good university or equivalent and thrives in life – is seeking a Health & Social Care Subject Leader (0.8 FTE) for a September 2026 start. The successful candidate will provide professional and curriculum leadership for the subject area and will be fully aligned to the Academy’s core values of Hard Work, Integrity and Kindness, striving for excellence in all aspects of their practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting and promoting the ethos and values of the Academy.
- Ensuring outstanding curriculum provision which is exceptionally well structured and enables students to develop an excellent understanding of key facts and processes and a deep understanding of and love for the subject.
- Ensuring that all roles and responsibilities within the subject area are at the appropriate level, clearly defined and well understood.
- Ensuring effective provision and developing outstanding teaching and learning, attainment and progress across the subject area.
- Developing outstanding marking across the subject area, with a particular focus on impact.
- Leading on standards verification in line with the BTEC programme.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of developments in Health & Social Care and ensuring that changes to course content are introduced and delivered in a timely manner.
- Ensuring that all assessments within the subject area are high-quality and robust.
- Maintaining an excellent understanding of the subject area’s effectiveness and making effective use of data to set targets and tackle underachievement quickly and effectively.
- Facilitating enrichment opportunities for students, including extension classes and trips.
- Maintaining high standards of behaviour within the subject area and across the Academy.
- Developing an ethos within the subject area where students tackle challenges positively and do not give up.
- Ensuring positive relationships are fostered between the subject area and parents to support excellent student behaviour and progress.
- Supporting the Academy in key events, including KS4 and KS5 results days.
- Undertaking additional duties of a similar level and complying with reasonable requests from the Senior Leadership Team.
Skills and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status.
- Relevant specialist qualifications and experience within the subject specialism, with the ability to teach up to Key Stage 5.
- Evidence of continuing professional development or relevant research.
- Commitment to improving practice through reflection, professional development and openness to feedback.
- Secure knowledge and understanding of a range of Assessment for Learning strategies.
- Secure knowledge and understanding of effective personalised provision for all students, including those with special educational needs and for whom English is an additional language.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of children.
- Experience of leadership or management and a proven track record of success.
- Proven excellence as a classroom practitioner at the secondary level across the ability range.
- Proven track record in improving teaching and classroom practice and driving specific improvements.
- Ability to engage and inspire students and apply ICT effectively in teaching and learning.
- Experience of department development planning and the use of data to inform teaching and learning.
- Experience of developing and sustaining positive relationships with parents, staff and students.
- Strong communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- High levels of organisation, self-management and the ability to work efficiently using data effectively.
Contract details: Permanent, 0.8 FTE. Required from September 2026. Location: Hackney, London.
