Bishopshalt School is seeking a Lead Practitioner in Computer Science to join a dynamic department and teach this popular subject across the age range.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching Computing to Key Stages 4 and 5, as well as teaching IT to a mixed-ability KS3 cohort.
  • Leading whole-school initiatives and supporting the strategic development of teaching and learning in Computer Science and IT.
  • Motivating and influencing staff, acting as a lead mentor and contributing to CPD and performance management.
  • Leading developments in departmental and cross-departmental curriculum planning and sequencing.
  • Collaborating with senior leadership colleagues to embed impactful pedagogical practices.
  • Using data and evidence to critically evaluate the impact of initiatives.
  • Supporting and leading the running of faculty-related clubs and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Playing an active role in the induction and development of ECTs and new staff.
  • Taking a leadership role in whole-school operational systems and supporting the smooth running of behaviour systems.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status with the ability to teach Computing up to KS5 and IT to KS3; the ability to offer a second subject, such as Business Studies, would be beneficial.
  • A ‘can-do’ approach to school improvement.
  • The desire to develop the offer of Computing within the school.
  • An experienced classroom practitioner who wants to engage with pedagogy and reading to inform their practice.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to co-plan, share ideas and develop best practice within your department and across the school.
  • Passionate about and committed to improving students’ life chances to ensure that they have Bright Futures.
  • Good interpersonal skills and excellent presentational skills.
  • Forward-thinking, receptive to change and able to work under pressure.
  • A friendly student cohort with exceptional behaviour and a willingness to learn.
