William Morris Sixth Form – an over-subscribed, vibrant, inner-city learning community with the individual student at the heart of everything it does – is seeking a Careers Advisor: Careers Guidance and Data to join the team on a part-time basis and help deliver aspirational careers and higher education guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the Head of Student Support Hub to plan and deliver an impartial careers programme.
- Conducting career guidance interviews with students which challenge and support them to make informed, realistic and adaptable career decisions.
- Assisting in the development of activities and resources to support the full range of careers, higher education and apprenticeship education programmes.
- Supporting and liaising with relevant colleagues, including the Leadership Group, in the development and delivery of careers and higher education tutorials and guidance programmes.
- Developing Careers events which encourage engagement, success and progression, including Careers Days, enrichment activities and Sixth Form initiatives.
- Developing relationships with employers, universities, training providers and external agencies to support the delivery of a high-quality careers service.
- Organising student visits to external events such as careers conventions, universities, summer schools, widening participation events and recruitment fairs.
- Leading on communicating key information to students via displays, newsletters, and social media and liaising with the Marketing Team to promote activities.
- Generating and maintaining student records electronically in support of career guidance interviews.
- Assisting in the checking and monitoring of UCAS applications to ensure the highest standards of quality control.
- Developing opportunities for students to be involved in volunteering and making a positive impact within the school’s wider community.
Skills and Experience
- Educated to degree level with a Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (or working towards this qualification).
- Membership of the Career Development Institute (desirable).
- Experience working within an educational setting with an understanding of the needs of inner-city students in the 16–19 age range.
- Experience in higher education and careers guidance and an enthusiasm for supporting, guiding and advising young people in their pursuit of educational and future achievements.
- Experience in establishing career programmes and developing successful links with higher education institutions, employers and outside agencies.
- Knowledge of all post-16 and post-18 pathways for young people, including the application processes for higher education and apprenticeships.
- Willingness and ability to work collaboratively and on your own initiative, including the ability to prioritise your own workload.
- Ability to effectively communicate with and counsel students.
- Good written and spoken communication skills with the ability to verbally present information to staff, students and parents.
Hours: Part-time, 28.8 hours per week, term-time only + 2 weeks.
