We are seeking an experienced Practice Support Lawyer to support the firm in managing effective compliance and risk framework and supporting technical know-how across the practice areas. This role will work closely with partners, fee earners, and business services teams to ensure the firm meets its professional and regulatory obligations, while supporting best practice, risk awareness, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in policy development, regulatory change management, training delivery, and document review, contributing to a strong culture of compliance across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance & Risk Support
- Support the embedding and ongoing operation of the firm's compliance and risk framework, ensuring alignment with SRA Standards and Regulations, GDPR and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist in monitoring regulatory developments and assessing their impact on the firm's policies, procedures, and working practices.
- Policies, Procedures & Regulatory Change
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop, update, and maintain policies and procedures in response to regulatory changes and evolving best practice.
- Support the integration of process changes into the business, ensuring they are practical, clearly communicated, and effectively implemented.
- Business & Practice Support
- Provide proactive business support by identifying, assessing, and escalating professional and regulatory risks across the firm.
- Work with practice groups and business services teams to enhance controls and mitigate identified risks.
- Act as a trusted adviser to partners and fee earners on compliance-related queries.
- Training & Knowledge
- Design and deliver training sessions, workshops, and practice updates to ensure lawyers remain compliant and up to date with regulatory and professional developments.
- Contribute to the development of compliance guidance notes, toolkits, and internal know-how materials.
- Document Review
- Review routine legal and client-facing documents to ensure compliance with regulatory, professional, and internal requirements.
- Support best practice in drafting, risk management, and consistency across the firm's documentation.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales, or equivalent relevant legal qualification.
- Strong understanding of SRA regulation, professional conduct, and law firm risk management.
- Experience in a practice support, compliance, risk, or knowledge role within a law firm (or relevant in-house/legal services environment).
- Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
- Experience designing and delivering training to legal professionals.
- Strong drafting, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
