Pod-Trak is looking for a motivated Civils-biased Estimator to join our Pre-Construction team in London and play a key role in bidding projects across the UK. You’ll be responsible for producing accurate, competitive estimates while working closely with project teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure winning bids translate into successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse tender documentation, drawings, and specifications
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for de-vegetation and minor civils projects
  • Produce bills of quantities, schedules of rates, and supporting documents
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and value-engineering options
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather quotations and technical details
  • Support business development and tender presentations
  • Maintain awareness of market rates, industry trends, and competitor activity
  • Collaborate with operational and project teams to ensure estimates are practical and achievable
  • Provide structured handover to project managers following contract award
  • Assist in cost planning, forecasting, and project performance reviews

Requirements

  • Proven experience in estimating within rail, infrastructure, civils, utilities, or energy sectors
  • Strong knowledge of civils methods, environmental considerations, and multi-discipline interfaces
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and IT skills (MS Excel, estimating software)
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with clients and subcontractors
  • Energetic, proactive, and detail-focused with the ability to thrive under pressure
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently
  • Relationship-building and client-facing skills
  • Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
  • Experience in specialist rail systems (OLE, permanent way, ETE/ETM, signalling)
