Behind these numbers is a dedicated team working together to build a cleaner, smarter and more sustainable energy future. As part of the EDF family, the UK’s largest generator of zero carbon electricity, we have the scale and stability to grow with confidence while continuing to innovate. We partner with major automotive brands, national homebuilders and some of the UK’s biggest retailers to deliver smart charging solutions that support drivers, balance the grid and make clean energy accessible for all. Our mission is simple, to manage the flow of energy in a way that benefits both people and the planet. If you want to join a purpose driven organisation where Truth, Edge and Care shape how we work, we’d love to meet you.
In our world, customer, partner, and employee safety is our top priority. We’re seeking a Health & Safety Manager to elevate our HS&E leadership across the EV industry, owning the management system, policies, and culture that keep our people safe and our operations compliant. You’ll lead a small team with a remit that touches all parts of Pod, working cross‑functionally to set standards, reduce risk, and continuously improve how we operate.
What you’ll do:
- Own the HS&E Management System and Policies – maintain, monitor, and continuously improve our HS&E framework, including incident reporting, investigation, and risk management across the business.
- Drive a World-Class HS&E Culture – champion safety leadership across Pod and be recognised as an influential voice in the EV industry.
- Legal Compliance – ensure the company remains compliant with all relevant health and safety legislation and standards; prepare and oversee internal audits and readiness for external audits.
- Accreditations & Certifications – obtain and maintain relevant HS&E accreditations for the business, ensuring policies and practices meet external benchmarks.
- Hold & Evolve Technical Standards – define and enforce the electrical technical standards for installation and maintenance teams, partnering with operations to embed best practice.
- Training & Competence – deliver industry-leading training on technical processes and procedures; track competence, refresher cycles, and learning outcomes.
- Risk Identification & Mitigation – guide business unit heads to develop HS&E risk mitigation plans across all departments and activities.
- Stakeholder Engagement – build trusted relationships with internal leaders, suppliers, regulatory and government bodies; act as Pod’s HS&E voice externally.
- Lead a High Impact HS&E Team – motivate, inspire, and remove barriers so your function “punches above its weight” across a broad set of responsibilities.
- Continuous Improvement – identify, develop, and implement process improvements that strengthen controls and optimise HS&E operations.
What you’ll bring:
- Proven HS&E delivery and a strong track record of continuous improvement within safety functions (direct HS&E experience advantageous but not strictly required).
- Industry experience in Electric Vehicles, Field Operations, and/or Construction & Design Management (CDM) is an advantage.
- Senior‑level influence – ability to engage credibly with executives, regulators, and external partners.
- Professional standing – Chartered Membership of IOSH (or willingness to obtain).
- Leadership that inspires – a collaborative leader who develops people and works cross‑functionally to deliver great outcomes for colleagues and customers.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and time‑management skills; comfortable operating autonomously and at pace.
